Hi,
I have the same problem in the "Problems w/ Reiserfs at reboot..." thread just below, so I know exactly how to fix it, here is the problem:

It gave me the same error messages as the other person got about where it could not read /dev/ROOT and then it takes me to a login prompt and asks for the root password and so I type it in and it does not work, so I think to myself that is strange, but there is an option to continue booting normally so I do that and it takes me to a regular login prompt and I type in the username and pass I made when I was setting this thing up and that doesn't work either. Is there any way I can reset the root pass? perhaps from the liveCD?

If you boot from the Live CD, and then mount all your directories under /mnt/gentoo, and then do the
Code:
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
you should be able to run passwd there and change the root password.

Yes, boot from GRUB with init=/bin/bash on the kernel command line. Then you can run passwd. Alternatively boot from the LiveCD, mount your root partition on /mnt/gentoo, chroot to /mnt/gentoo and run passwd.
