lenvens,
Plug the modem into you PC with and boot a Linux CD.
In a shell run lsusb and post the line that relates to your modem.
Making your modem work with Gentoo is only half the problem, the other half is getting connected to your ISP.
As a guess, you modem probably needs the cdc-ether module loaded, thats
and you connect to your ISP with PPP or PPPoE, so you need a dialer and PPP support.
Provide the lsusb line and we can take it from there. _________________ Regards,

lenvens,
The kernel help says
Code: | config USB_CXACRU
tristate "Conexant AccessRunner USB support"
select FW_LOADER
help
Say Y here if you have an ADSL USB modem based on the Conexant
AccessRunner chipset. In order to use your modem you will need to
install the firmware, extracted by the user space tools; see
<http://accessrunner.sourceforge.net/> for details.
To compile this driver as a module, choose M here: the
module will be called cxacru. | which is the kernel option for your modem.
Its unlikely the Gentoo minimal CDs provide support for this device, but Gentoo will after its installed.
You can install Gentoo without a working internet connection on the target machine. You need to do your downloads elsewhere (or on another OS) and move them to your growing Gentoo install. This process is called sneakernet
You can install Gentoo from any liveCD that will provide the tools to support the install, so SystemRescueCD and Knoppix are good choices. None of the code on the CD ends up in your install.
-- edit --
I've booted a Gentoo LiveCD in VirtualBox. The module cxacru is not provided so you cannot get online with the Gentoo liveCD _________________ Regards,
