When booting gentoo from CD (gentoo dopcmcia), it does not recognise my pcmcia network device (Realtek RTL 8139). which module should be loaded by modprobe? greetz

You might try rtl8139 or 8139too. Apparently 8139too is the name used with 2.4 and later kernels.
