Just go my Thinkpad T60 this week with an Atheros wireless card model AR5212 which should work with the ath5k kernel setting.
Running ifconfig shows me that wlan0 is there and starting wlan0 with /etc/init.d/wlan0 tells me that is started und somehow idle. I*m using Wicd as network manager which always worked fine for me. Wicd mostly doesn*t show any networks at all or when I try to connect to my router (if it shows up) it returns a "bad password" error message. I know my password is set correctly.
In the kernel I've only enabled the 80211 generic, mac and wext stuff because all the threads here on the forum suggest to leave away the lib and even the wext but I guess I need wext for wicd.
Now I'm really curious if we can get this card to work .

I feel a quite stupid now. I had the router configured to accept only the mac addresses of our two computers and mixed something up in the configuration. Even though I checked it again one or two times I must have missed something essential. So everything works fine now. |
