I'm having a very painful problem right about now. My need is to set up a NAT server and a firewall for my little LAN. So, I installed iptables.

Trouble is, when I try to load iptables, it gives me unresolved symbols in iptables.o. The symbols are nf_unregister_sockopt and nf_register_sockopt. I assumed that I had compiled the kernel wrong, and that the error points to netfilter, but I'm not able to find the actual fault.

Does anyone know how to work this?

Can you post the relevant part of your kernel config? It appears that your kernel was compiled without netfilter support.

I actually followed the instructions from that page to the T when compiling Netlink, and most of it I compiled as hard-code rather than modules for testing, and then as modules again. Didn't make any difference.

I'm going to try with a different kernel version.

If you use Gentoo-Sources kernel, that kernel didn´t work for me either.
When i switch to Grsec-Sources kernel all works fine :)
