I don't know what the ideal forum for this topic is, but since it could deal with Gentoo on a Plug computer (ARM) architecture, I'll start here.
Basically, there may be a groundswell occurring and the opportunity for Gentoo to become a player.
See freedomboxfoundation.org. Apparently in the last several hours, major newspapers (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, American Bar Association) have decided this is an interesting topic and are giving publicity this group's agenda.
I've been using Gentoo on the Plug computer and believe Gentoo and Plug computing are an excellent match. Unfortunately, not a lot people want to take the more difficult path and are happy to settle with the Plug computer arriving with a predetermined operating system, e.g. Debian.
If the freedomboxfoundation takes off (it certainly has a leader with impressive credentials, and therefore credibility), this could be an opportunity for Gentoo to stake a claim, especially from the standpoint of being an intellectually challenging learning experience.
If anyone agrees the start of the freedomboxfoundation.org could be something and thinks another forum within Gentoo where there is a higher readership is appropriate, please speak up and/or post there accordingly. |
