Hi, my company is tasking me with verifying our Linux machines. Some of our employees use Gentoo - I need to know the EOL and EOS dates for the Gentoo distributions. I have searched the forums, and the site, as well as Google - to no avail. Only thing I found was v2.4 back in 2008...
Please help.
Thanks.

Gentoo does not have discrete distributions like Ubuntu, Fedora, or Windows.
Gentoo is based on a rolling release cycle, so once it is installed, it is version-less.

As long as the system is kept up to date, it is always running the most recent version.

That said, if yours is the sort of company that does big updates once in a blue moon, the point at which Gentoo stagnates to the point of being impossible or very hard to update is also a bit fuzzy. It just gets progressively more troublesome the more time passes. I've done updates of year-old machines which is doable. Realistically the more frequent the easier it is. I'd recommend once a month or once every few months. There's no official point at which updating becomes unsupported which might not jive with the way some IT departments operate.

And the more time passes, the more time is needed to do the update. I am using two gentoo machines at work. My laptop is updated every Monday, the desktop every second Wednesday. And both do not have much to do then.

I am reminded of a network admin I worked with some years ago. I asked him

He replied
