Hello all,
After weeks with crippled xfce I finally got it to work.
In the meantime, I was looking for some other light desktops.
I found ratpoison, and I like the idea, but just found out that gimp and OO does not work.
However, I am inclined to try some other desktops, such as ratpoison and ion, but one at the time.
I have slim login manager, and i followed this:
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Ratpoison
It is simple tutorial and seems easy to install, but after installation and reboot it does not start...
actually xfce starts normally...
Here is my .xinitrc:
Code: | grom@C6820s ~ $ cat .xinitrc
exec ratpoison
#exec startxfce4
grom@C6820s ~ $ |
but I found on this forum, that this won't start it (3rd post):
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-790990-highlight-ratpoison.html
I need some help with starting ratpoison.
As for second part, I remember that I started xfce with startx command, after I logged in console after boot ended. I would like to go back to that, so I can log in in console after boot, and than type command to start my windows manager of choice. On that matter I would also kindly ask how to do that ( Thoes this means, that I have to change .xinitrc file each time? Or could I write a script to let me choose desktop of my chioce?)
Thank you
EDIT:
I got it to work, I followed gentoo handbook, but in reverse order, I had to stop xdm form /etc/init.d and than remove it, and in 90xsession removed xfce. Also configured .xinitrc...
The matter of fact is, I am wtiting this from ratpoison...
Thank you for bearing with me! _________________ Kind regards, Goran Mitic
