Compared to the other Gnome 3 questions, this one should be easy. I have a couple programs installed in a directory in my home folder (Eclipse, Neverwinter Nights). In Gnome 2, adding shortcuts to them in the menus was a simple matter. Now, however, I have no clue how to do so. Gnome-shell can't find the programs, and I don't know how to change that.

Found the answer. A .desktop file needs to be placed in /usr/share/Applications
I couldn't find any information on the file syntax online, but fortunately, it's simple enough to figure out from looking at the other .desktop files in the directory. I wish there was a place where I could put them where they wouldn't be universal, but this is a single-user laptop. It's not much of an issue at this point. |
