I have an Ultra 10, Creator 3 D, 512 MB RAM, 10 GB ide-HD.
gentoo (kernel 2.4.x) is up and running, even the sound works. I am using xfce and I am pretty happy with the speed the machine runs with.
Right now I am setting it up as my private computer for daily use as homecomputer and I am somewhat struggling finding the right applications for the daily tasks. most of them are not marked "stable" and I am not sure what the BEST WORKING ON SPARC applications are for e.g.
* listening to audio streams (realplayer and/or windows media streams)
* viewing pdf- files
* download music (p2p)
* which "open office" version is known to work? how about "lyx"?
would be nice if the forum also talked about those things and/or people posted some commented "world-file"......
thanks for reading my post and your time
cheers

Ultra 2 clone
2x300 2gig of ram.. 2x9gig drives gentoo installed
ultra 2 clone
2x200 1gig of ram 2x9gig drives gonna have gentoo next in line
ultra 2 clone
2x200 768megs of ram.. 9gig 4.5gig , gonna have gentoo
ultra 2 clone
1x 300 512megs of ram 9gig 2.1gig , gonna have gentoo
ss20
4x200mhz 512megs of ram 1 9gig .. most likely gonna end up with gentoo
ss10
2x85Mhz 256megs ram 2x4.5gigs will keep solaris on it as it will run the 6 sparcstorage fc arrays i have.. those now are stocked with 4.5gig drives totaling 108 drive.. can handle 180 drives.. plans are to order either 180 9 gig drives.. or if i can make sure they work move on up to 18 gig drives.. the box will be used just as a fileserver for storage
deals in the works..
2more ultra 2 clones .. would like to get a u60 and a e3000 or better.. maybe a 4500 or something.. also looking to pick up a ss1000 .. the very 1st sparc i got to use.. so i want to get one for home.. load it up with 8 - dual 150mhz or 125mhz cards(MUCH cheaper then going the dual 200mhz cards)
all those system are just home system and toys because im getting back into playing with linux as i havent in a few years |

4 gig scsi
Apple 300 external cd-rom
144 mb ram
Leo fb
Runs quite nicely with a fresh 2004.1 install and currently windowmaker and going to try enlightenment, but it would be fluxbox if I could get it to build (tryed up and smp 2.4 kernels and i get g++ internal errors) |

Several SUN Machines ... (U1, U2e, U5, U10, SunBlade 100, E150, E250)
Probably, I will have the chance to install it on a SunFire 6800,
would be very very nice!
Trying to run Gentoo 2.4 first on my Sun Blade 100 (with a Expert 3D lite
VGA Adapter, 768MB RAM)... Still trying... Framebuffer doesn't work
during boot:-(... (Read my post)...

Masamune
Ultra1, 170C3D, 128RAM,18GB HD, FFB
Gentoo - Mail/Web/Stuff server
Aquagon
Ultra5, 270, 64RAM, 4GB HD,PGX24
None - Not much at the moment till more ram shows up..
Alraune
Ultra5, 360, 128MB, 40GB HD, PGX24
Gentoo/Solaris9 - Secondary desktop, college schoolwork from my bed
Excalibur
SunBlade 1000, 750, 2048RAM, 40GB HD, FFB2+
Solaris 9 - Primary Desktop
I must say, that even under slowaris, Excalibur is -very- responsive. I plan on adding another CPU at some point, and am currently in the market for an Expert3d (or other frame buffer with texture ram, so I can play quake2 with reasonable FPS ...) _________________ -Tim Smith |

SunFire V210
2 x UltraSparc IIIi
2 Gb RAM
2 x Sun 73G harddisks
Kernel 2.6.9 rc2
Sun XVR-100 (radeon)
from a Gentoo 2004.2 Stage 3 tarball
Not working:
X on XVR-100 (console fb ok)
SILO 1.4.x on disk (from 2004.2 CD ok; SILO 1.3.2 ok)
2.6.8, 2.6.9 fail to shutdown properly - there is a hard freeze
when init sends TERM signal to all processes (2.4.2[67] are ok in this
respect)
disklabel always fails with I/O error - have to "clone" the first few sectors
from a Sun-labelled disk to get it to "take" |
