hey!
i was looking for a gentoo iso to download via torrent,
and what i found was this rather outdated gentoo torrent site (http://torrents.gentoo.org/)
i don't get why one would not try to let the users help distribute gentoo.
some recent torrents would be nice. include a magnet link.
i'll seed.

The problem is that no one actually seeds, and those who want to, find that downloading from a mirror is much faster and so they don't seed either.
The reason is that unlike the other distros, there isn't a big surge of downloaders once a new version of a liveCD is released, so there isn't a big number of people who would start to download the torrent to generate the critical mass needed to make the torrent fast enough to be useful.
I'm surprised there are iso's from 2008; I thought they stopped making torrents much earlier... _________________ “And even in authoritarian countries, information networks are helping people discover new facts and making governments more accountable.”– Hillary Clinton, Jan. 21, 2010 |

it's kind of sad that the gentoo community can't reach this critical mass...
but since the last torrent was from 2008 i think maybe 3 years later another try could be made... |

It's not about that. Read carefully what Etal said: Gentoo is not a distro with a big release every few months that a lot of people would want to download at the same time. Gentoo is an install-once distro. You install it and that's it, then you just continually upgrade at your own pace. |

Furthermore, I'm sure a significant percentage of Gentoo users don't even use the Gentoo LiveCD to install Gentoo, since you could use pretty much any liveCD for the purpose _________________ “And even in authoritarian countries, information networks are helping people discover new facts and making governments more accountable.”– Hillary Clinton, Jan. 21, 2010 |

yeah I think this hits the nail on the head. Imho the easiest way to install Gentoo is to use system rescue cd. _________________ Increasingly becoming a 2 channel audio nut! |
