When i boot from any linux CD, kernel fails to detect CD ROM drive in 9 of 10 times. i tried 3 different CDs: ubuntu 10.04 live, kubuntu 10.10 install cd, sysrescuecd 1.5. during boot process i get error that media with system files is not found. then system drops to minishell. and when i ls /dev i see no sr0
strange, i tried 2 different CD ROMs and 2 different PCs - all the same. CD ROMs have ide interfaces. |

creator20110219,
Welcome to Gentoo.
What kernel versions do your CDs have ?
will show it.
This typically happens when the driver for your IDE chipset is missing from the kernel. _________________ Regards,

those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail. |
