I have an old Toshiba Satelite 2545 that I am using to experiment with Gentoo. I've used RPM based Distros for a few years. The insalation went well . About 30 min after the first reboot, the computer shuts down. I've disabled all the power managment features in the bios except for powering down of the disk (disable is not an ption so I set it to the longest length of 30 min.) This is a persistant and reproducable problem. But here is the wierd part. It does not shutdown like this using the Live CD (the one I used for install) or if I use the development-sources kernel. I tried the several other kernels including aa and gentoo-sources and still get the shutdowns. Anyone know any big differences in the installed versions and the Live CD that could cause something like this to happen. Is the kernel from the live cd available for compilation. Any help would be aprecieated. By the way, I've had a great time playing with Gentoo so far.

well, apart from security emergency shutdowns due to excessive temperature, i wouldn't tell...
you say it shuts down after 30mins... during those 30mins, do you compile stuff or is the computer idling ?? can you hear/feel the airflow from the fan(s) ?
you disabled all powermanagement... but did you try activating all the ACPI options, including the special toshiba stuff in the kernel ? |
