|
|
Hello,
My Gentoo LiveUSB, which I just created works perfectly fine under QEMU, but won't boot on my acer laptop, I mean the real hardware. I did every step described on http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/liveusb.xml and my BIOS is able to boot from USB.
I get allways to this:
SYSLINUX 4.03 2010-10-22 EDD Copyright (C) 1994-2010 H. Peter Anvin et al
Gentoo Linux Installation LiveCD
boot: gentoo-nofb
Loading gentoo .....
Loading gentoo.igz ..... ready
Decompressing Linux ... Parsing ELF... done.
Booting the kernel.
Then it stops and won't proceed.
Any ideas? |

Play with the options on the CD, like nodetect. Also give it time before calling it dead.
Or try a different live CD, like the system rescue cd _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box. |

Thanks for your support.
I was waiting for about 10 min and absolutely no reaction.
I recompiled the kernel for i386 and it worked. I mean the kernel image booted, of course the rest of the system not )). So, something is wrong with the gentoo kernel. Not with my hardware )) |

Wait. Did you install the installation CD to the flash drive, or install Gentoo on the flash drive?
The guide you followed was supposed to give you an environment to install Gentoo, not give you a working Gentoo installation.
for the instillation, you need to follow these directions: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

He created his own bootable liveusb, at no point did he say he was booting from the official media, so this is just his custom Gentoo setup which just boots from usb devices. |
