I finally have my system up and running with gentoo after 3 long weeks. YAY. but i have a problem...i cant seem to emerge the reiserfsprogs. i have no idea why. i have done an emerge sync and emerge portage and they worked fine. so if someone could give me some hints as to what i need to do it would be appreciated. Also i was wondering if i needed/good idea if i ran emerge system and if there were any other thigns i need to run and what options with the emerge system or emerge world. thanks for any replies and thanks for the help to get my system up and running. this is truly the best forums on the net
one last thing....anyone know of an estimated time to emerge xfree86 and to compile it? |

what about you try this:
Code: | emerge reiserfsprogs |
this would be the normal way to get it. if this fails, could you give us more of the error output? |

emerge -k is only to be used while you do a GRP install. if you aren't doing this, use emerge packagename instead.
as for emerge -u system, it depends of a few things. did you start from stage1 for example? |

ok first of all young grasshoper, you will need to learn to be patient with Gentoo. Compiling takes times. If you want fast installs, get a redhat ISO.
for the emerge system. no need for it. you might want to do a :
Code: | emerge sync && emerge -u world |
once in a while. like 2 times a week or something. little bit of advice, don't use a cron job for that, do it manually. |
