I had what I thought was a quite generic kernel configuration, but it fails to recognize the disk that is in a compact Atom based PC. Booting with a Ubuntu LiveCD from an external USB CDROM does work however, the disk being available as /dev/sda. How can I now derive which kernel part I am missing? (Don't even know if the functionality is in-kernel of available as a module)

boot the live-cd that recognizes the controller, then do
Code:
lspci -k

(shows the kernel-drivers in use)
if you have web-access with the livecd you can do update-pciids before; it will fetch the latest pciids.
GOOD LUCK!

Wasn't sure about the architecture, but adding support for Intel SCH did the trick!
