The upgrade to gtk+-2.24.3 changed the timing some how between the nm-applet
and gnome-keyring. before the upgrade i would get the message to enter the
password to unlock the keyring, and then nm-applet would connect to my
wireless. after the upgrade nm-applet tries to connect first, when it fails then
asks for the keyring password. If my neighbors unprotected router is turned
on then nm-applet connects to it.
gnome-keyring-2.32.1
nm-applet-0.8.2
gtk+-2.22.1-r1
Any ideas? |

The system never tried to install 2.24.0 or 2.24.1. I could try to install one of
them, but it's not worth it. I will mask 2.24.3 for a while and try in maybe a week or
so. Strange problems due tend to go away eventually. |

Problem does not relate to gtk+ at all. If the system sees my neighbors
unprotected router when it come up, it automatically connects to it. Then once
it is up I have to go in and connect to my router. Then it prompts for the key-ring
password. I have no idea what has changed to cause this action. I have noticed
two additional problems. If i click on CPU-freq on the panel, or on a partition under
Places, the system used to prompt me for the root password and then allow me to
change CPU-Freq or mount the partition. No longer prompts for password so neither
function works any longer. On the 20th of March, I changed Kernels so at that
time I was able to mount the boot partition to update menu.lst. A bunch of Perl
modules have since been updated, I have run Perl-cleaner, Python-updater and as
always revdep-rebuild since.
So it seems it is time to start using my SUSE partition as my main system, and
every 2 or 3 days, update Gentoo and see if things begin to work again. You
would think after all these years I would give up, or maybe not. |
