Can't find ip_tables

I have just installed a GUI for iptables called firestarter, when i try and run firestarter it come up say it cant find ip_table but i have emerge them and also add a M to the kernel but it still cant find it i have listed the process i took can anyone help

1. emerge iptables
2. cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig
Networking options --->
IP: Netfilter Configuration --->
<M> IP tables support (required for filtering/masq/NAT)

3. saved config and "make dep"

Come up with the message cant find ip_tables when i try and run firestarter.

And this still wont work any one know what ive missed?
