Ok, I added:

x11-libs/cairo qt4
x11-libs/qt-gui -gtk

to package.use

Lets see what happens.

and then if you

cd /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/qt-gui-4.7.2/
find -name 'config.log'


also post the config.log, where you find it, up on pastebin.

i didnt even notice your other post above, though, those steps do look reasonably familiar (and hopefully, that means they're correct!)

if X is working, and KDE is working, should be good to go.
