Hi all, I realize I'm something of a gentoo noob, so I'll apologize in advance for all the stupid questions I ask. Yes, it's only a matter of time before I ask a stupid question.
Long story short, I've managed to get gentoo built and running, but it's just a bash shell at the moment, I can't seem to stabilize X to save my life. Think the mouse driver is horked, but not at all sure what's wrong with it.
Xlog is here http://pastebin.com/4mszWJDC,
Xorg.conf is here http://pastebin.com/Kc58cb1y,
My gentoo make file is here, http://pastebin.com/EY5jDu3y
Hoping I screwed up somewhere, so checking around in various forums and irc channels. Any advice/guidance is appreciated, if I can get this going in a VM, hopefully I have more confidence that I can make it work in physical form, because for various reasons, I really want to get familiar with Gentoo
thanks and regards!
(Edit - Also, if anyone has a working Gentoo VirtualBox VM and doesn't mind sharing, I wouldn't mind getting a look at a known good make.conf/xorg.conf. Perhaps if I diff it with my own, I can figure out what's wrong.) |

I remember a couple of things about getting X to work in VirtualBox:
1. You don't need to use the binary Guest Additions; you can emerge virtualbox-guest-additions.
2. You will need both xf86-input-virtualbox and xf86-input-mouse for the mouse to function; I have no idea why this is the case.
3. The final xorg.conf was really small with just a graphics section, I think. |
