I have just finished emerging apache2 (2.0.47), and mod_php. Both are working,- However, when i do a 'ps -aux' or 'top' there are severel instances running, all consuming memory, i have not made any alterations to the configuration (besides the mod_php), and i am starting apache with the '/etc/init.d/apache2 start' command, but i have also tested manually with theese commands; 'apache2' 'apache2 -k', they all start up 7 instances. Anybody know why?

take a look at /etc/apache2/conf/apache2.conf

# StartServers: number of server processes to start
