|
|
There's a row of 5 buttons on top of keyboard:
Mail, TV (I think), WWW, lock, ? (help)
On the side of the machine, there are volume up/down and mute. These can also be accessed by Fn-combos.
The problem is that X only hears some of the events (Mail, WWW and volume up/down), but xev doesn't give anything for the others. Any suggestions on what I'm missing? Are there some alternate keyboard drivers? |

Another related problem: none of the multimedia keys work when xscreensaver has locked the display. At least the volume controls would be very useful even then... I'm currently using Gnome MM-keys for it. |

I have an hp pavilion zt-1100. I have to use the omnibook module (emerge omnibook, I think). The module lets, say, acme see the keypresses. There is some other neat stuff in the module, too, like backlight control. |

In addition to the omnibook kernel module you need the omke script program which is found on the omnibook kernel
home page. Otherwise some of the keys (like volume) will not work on some models.
And a keyboard configuration tool. AFAIK there are three options here:
1. KDE comes with build in Multimedia Keyboard configuration tool. Select omnibook and change the defaults.
2. Gnome Multimedia Keys Preferences (acme) to set the keys you want. Somewhat limited, but can assign the keys (including side volumes).
3. For any GUI, including the first two, you can use Hotkeys. But need to search the Net for sample omnibook files since the program lacks them. A google search with omnibook (o pavilion) linux will bring you the results. This one is by far the most flexible of them.
