I just emerged KDE 4.6.2 onto my iBook G4 and I'm having a bit of an issue. I get the log in screen for KDE, type my username and password, and it acts like it's going to log me onto the desktop (I get the 4 widget splash screen). Then the 4 widget splash screen goes away and it jumps right back to the log in screen.
I suspect what might be happening is that "desktop effects" are enabled by default, which my Radeon Mobility doesn't like because I'm stuck with the xorg drivers for that card (ATI doesn't offer proprietary drivers for power pc). If this is the case, is there any possible way I can get into KDE to disable that setting so that I can log onto it? |

That file doesn't exist. Not even the .kde4 directory exists under ~/.
Also, I found a way to toggle desktop effects prior to logging into KDE. When I did that the display driver got much worse so I know it isn't desktop effects causing this.
So the problem I'm having is that you type in your username and password, hit enter, it starts to log in, then crashes back to the log in screen and desktop effects is not the cause, hald and dbus are both started as well. |

something is very wrong - the first time kde starts it is
supposed to set up ~/.kde4 etc
you could try to add a new user and try to start kde
in the new users account ... _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth
doing as simply messing about with Linux ...

Tried that, and it gives me the message -
"Only root wants to run kdm" |
