Newbie question: how to find an executable file?

Hey, I've been wondering how to find the executable file when I just emerged something, most of the time it is a logical name like xterm for the app xterm, but for example xchat and xchat-2 I had to search in the bin dir. I just emerged bitchx now and I just can't seem to find how to start it!! I downloaded the binary just to see, it contained BitchX but I can't find this on my hd or with locate.. How do I start bitchx and how do find executables in the future??
