Late last night (probably the reason for the mistake...) I accidentally ran mke2fs /dev/sda1 instead of sdc1, where /dev/sda1 is a 2TB NTFS partition.

As soon as I realised my mistake (4-5 seconds) I hit Ctrl-C and stopped the process.

I ran TestDisk and rebuilt the boot sector, TestDisk can find file using undelete.

I tried to mount in Linux with ntfs3g and failed, ntfsfix also failed. I am going to run chkdsk now and see what happens.

Any other ideas? :(

I would suggest not to try any chkdisk or similar simple utils, cause you probably had overwritten the service areas of ntfs partition, so I would try proprietary windows software for recovery, as it should be written and tested very well specifically for NTFS. At least don't allow any utils that you run to modify the partition contents, or it will be much more difficult to restore it later. :?
