Im having problems installing gentoo on my adaptec 1210SA controller
I have 2 80gb Seagate Sata Drives connected to the controller which is currently running winxp and i have set aside a 15gb partition for gentoo.

However... the livecd doesnt recognise the device :( ive tried everything.. booting the different kernels on the cd with almost every combination of options ... and still nothing :(

any help would be appreciated :)

It seems ive found *A* solution...
the ac-sources has support for this chipset... but its useless since i cant mount a partition from the livecd (I have no other hdds to do tmp install on)

Im downloading the Mandrake 9.1 ISO's and doing a temp installation then install gentoo via the mandrake installation with ac-sources :)

(mandrake 9.1 has builtin support for the sil3112 chipset)

I will post back here with my progress

This is gay..

There is a modules called aar1210.o on the cd that came with the controller..
I copied it to a floppy and tried insmod on it with the gentoo livecd..
it complains about the module being compiled with gcc version 2 and using it with a gcc version 3 compiled kernel is known not to work.. even with 'insmod -f aar1210.o' it refuses to load (lots of unresolved symbols) ..

I tried it with mandrake 9.1 .. it didnt find the controller automatically so i tried 'insmod -f aar1210.o' from the floppy and it worked! it found the partitions and i installed mandrake 9.1 on it.. however since the module was loaded from the floppy.. when i rebooted it couldnt find the root partition :\

so ive given up on mandrake and im going to keep on trying with gentoo...

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know!! :(
