I had the same problem with mpd, but I've decided to try to work it out with ices.
I've gotten to the point where I have Icecast and Ices installed. Icecast starts and I can access http://audiodef.com:8000/status.xsl . No mount points show up.
I've been looking for a while and can't see what I'm missing. I've followed this Wiki guide.

OK, I solved this. The problem is the ebuild builds /etc/init.d/ices wrong. Here is the correct init script (or a working one, anyway):
