Hi, after last update to kdm-4.6.3-r1, both fields at the login screen are empty, even if I logged myself successfully before. How to change this behaviour?

Just open the KDM settings in KDE System Settings and change the behaviour in the last tab. Maybe you did upgrade your kdm configuration file.

chown kdm.kdm /var/lib/kdm/kdmsts

The long story:

The last login state is stored under /var/lib in a file called kdmsts.

The runtime files were migrated from /var/lib/kdm-4.6 to /var/lib/kdm during the last update . It should have migrated everything, but delete the old directories anyway.

At the same time, the owner for /var/lib/kdm/kdmsts changed from kdm.kdm to root.root, and if kdm is executed as user, it cannot read or write to that file. So it doesn't remember the last user.
