I'm using 2.6 and would like to use bootsplash, possibly with the initrd(and progressbar patch) that contains progress indication from the liveCD, is this possible?
i havent seen any bootsplash patches for 2.6 as of yet.

Neither have I :(

It's certain bootsplash.org will have a patch by the time 2.6 is final (not long?) 8)

well, the upside is that maybe once bootsplash is available for 2.6, the gentoo folks will have integrated the progress bar into the base rc scripts.

But the downside is that we still don't have bootsplash on 2.6. :)

Or you could look into SystemServices as a complete replacement of the init scripts, that would give you a bootsplash as well.. there are several ways to skin a cat.

Ok, you just proved that there's more than one cat to skin. But the matter of debate is how to skin it.

No matter what cat is chosen, we must first
Code:
kill cat

or
Code:
killall cat

if we're going for broke.

Okay I feel sorry for the cat now - so I might as well tell you all that I'm looking for C coders to help me port bootsplash to 2.6 as part of love-sources.

This won't be the replacement for bootsplash, but the bootsplash guys won't port their patch untill the fb API stops changing (it seems to have settled down now btw.) - and since it's a highly requested feature I figured we might as well give it a shot.

Is SystemServices actually usable yet or is it another piece of vaporware?

I'd like to try it if it's not.

Seth still holds his cards close to his body.

Anyways, elpp has been released - you can now have a nice boot splash on 2.6.
