Loko123,
Boot a CD and see if the hard drive is seen at all.
The Code: | Could not find the ROOT block device in . | message should list and hard drive partitions that exist just before the dot. Thats regardless of content.
Maybe your kernel or initrd is damaged or more seriously, maybe its your hardware.
What does the cd show for what about _________________ Regards,

Hey NeddySeagoon,
First of all I'm going to show you my bootloaderconf.
/boot/kernel-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.39 initrd=/boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.39 dolvm root=/dev/ram0 init=linuxrc ramdisk=8192 crypt_root=/dev/sda2 real_root=/dev/mapper/gentoo-root
I have no live cd here, because I'm not at home right now.(I'm on holiday... And will ve back in 2 weeks).
I'll try these commands with the integrated shell /bin/ash
ls /dev/sd* print: /dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2
Fdisk -l prints:
Command id not available.
Thanks for your help, I hope that we can fix it. |

i am not a grub guy but as far as i see,you have your root parti...(sda2 ) still.have you tryed to switch kernel to load
if you have one can you see the grubboot screen .often when i have to force shutdown,i got a fsck block error ting when booting. and the only time i had a real boot error was when i compiled grub with gcc-4.7
hope there is some useful words there for you |

Hey hedmo,
I've solved the problem. I was in an Internet-Café and got Sysrescuecd. After that, I've repaired my initrd. Now it boots like a charm.
The block error was caused by a damaged initrd.
P.S. I'm not using Grub - I have chosen syslinux (extlinux) It works like a charm.
Thanks to all supporters here!
best wishes,
