webkit-gtk version bump depends on GNOME 3?

Something interesting:

It seems that the the version bump for webkit-gtk to 1.4.0 is part of the GNOME 3.0 tracker (see bugs 366943, 353071).

Why would this be? If GNOME currently in Portage isn't ready for the new webkit-gtk or its minimum dependencies (e.g. libsoup), then shouldn't the ebuilds in the tree be modified to block against these versions until GNOME 3.0 is ready?

Since I use midori, I wouldn't mind having a new webkit-gtk in order to resolve some bugs (e.g., blinking animated GIFs, as in bug 363785).
