Config: AMD k6-3 450 MHTZ, 256mb, ATI Xpert98 8mb, Olicom tlan nic, IBM Deskstar 13GB IDE, Adaptec aic7xxx w/4GB hd, cdrom.
Partitioning: hda1-boot-200mb, hda2-swap-520mb, hda3-/-rest.
sda1-opt-4gb.
gentoo 1.1a
Everything okay until # scripts/bootstrap.sh. Didn't know what to do with #USE in make.conf so left alone. After a while stops on following error:
gcc .... .libs/syms.o
Unable to handle paging request at virtual address 20202020
Printing EIP:
c012e474
(snip)
Process cc1 (pid: 4447 stackpage=cb03f000)
(snip)
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
make[3]:*** [syms.lo] Error 1
make[3]:*** [waiting for unfinished jobs]
Any help would be appreciated as I am looking forward to seeing gentoo work. |

Did you remember to type:
Before you ran the bootstrap script? |

Yes. I did the following-
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
emerge sync - previous try said a file missing and this would fix it.
env-update
source /etc/profile
emerge rsync - think it downloaded about 12 mb
no errors indicated on these steps |

Sorry to say that I spent two nights trying to get this installed. One time it went about 30 minutes before it came up with Unable to process page request. Since no one seemed to care except one with an obvious idea, I give up and am reloading elx linux. |

Gentoo installed fine for me, but now I get "Unable to handle paging request" messages all the time. From Samba, from X, from lots of stuff.
Config: P3 866, 128 megs of ram, XFS
make.conf has the default options for 686
Installed from the 1.1a CD for 686, skipping straight to step 3 |
