Does anybody know the plans/recommendations how to use firefox-5 with a free java implementation like icedtea?
Is the dependency of icedtea-web[nsplugin] on xulrunner just a bug which should be reported/changed to firefox, or does it really depend on xulrunner?
If the latter is the case, what will happen since xulrunner is no longer supported? Should one keep the obsolete version around? |

I do not think xulrunner is deprecated. Just that xulrunner 5 is not yet in tree and that the firefox-5.0 ebuild uses a bundle version thereof.
The plugin is also meant to work with chrome as far as I know. So depending on xulrunner if sufficient seems the right thing to do. |

I doubt that gentoo will ever update this ebuild if upstream has dropped support:
ChangeLog wrote: | XULRunner has been
merged back into Firefox with this release, and there is no corresponding
net-libs/xulrunner release since upstream has dropped official support for
it. Packages that want libmozjs should use dev-lang/spidermonkey, which will
be updated soon. |

Which was nice IMHO because it gave us at least a little hope that we would sometimes be able to use thunderbird with the same xulrunner as firefox…
Also, removing xulrunner effectively broke Gnome 3 \o/ |
