How to duplicate a partition... this should be fun.. read on

Hi,
I have decided to have 3 partitions a boring standard gentoo system for work, a fun ~x86 and cvs system for the hell of it and showing of and a partition for shared data... well I have the boring stuff on hda5 the shared stuff on hda7 and the empty but soon to be fun one on hda6 I was going to post asking the best way to duplicate hda5 onto hda6 to fast start me but whilst posting I decided to just to a "dd if=/dev/hda5 of=/dev/hda6"

It's buzzing away at the monent...... did I do the right thing?..... stay tuned or try and guess the outcome.....
