PostPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 8:02 pm    Post subject: VirtualBox USB2 question Reply with quote

Hello,

I havent been using virtualbox for a while and i found the new version a bit confusing.
I first installed virtualbox-bin but i notice that usb transfer was really slow.
After searching i found that i should install the virtualbox and extra pack in order to have usb 2 support.
I made sure the extra pack is active in the preferences but i still dont have any box as before to enable usb 2 transfer.
After that i enable the use flag extensions but it didnt do the trick.

How can i enable usb 2 ? Is there still a checkbox in 4.x (there is no screenshot in the manual) ?

Thanks,

Xavier

I am having exactly the same problem with recent version of vbox4. I'm not entirely sure exactly when usb2 stopped working.

A workaround is to use the virtualbox-bin package which provides working usb2.

This is fixed in app-emulation/virtualbox-4.0.12 (see bug 364717)

Just noticed that in the 4.0.12 ChangeLog; I've reverted to virtualbox compiled-from-source ebuild, and usb2 now works again.

My upgrade went directly from 4.0.10 to 4.1.0 - and usb 2.0 does not work.

Anyone tried usb support with 4.1.0 already?

Okay, thanks for info. So it's something on my box - maybe related to linux 3.0-rc or something.
Not sure what kernel and VirtualBox version I had installed when I last used usb2, but I did configure my Logitech Harmony that way.

EDIT: meh, fixed.
I was missing /dev/vboxusb/*, and had an old /etc/udev/rules.d/10-virtualbox.rules lying around which superseeded /lib64/udev/rules.d/10-virtualbox.rules
