I'm using K3B 4.6.3, and have LAME 3.98.4 installed. (AMD64 system, UTF8.)

I've been trying to rip to MP3 from some CDs, but when K3B passes things off to LAME, it immediately errors out. There is no error attached, just the command line that failed, and the debug info just lists the CD Drive parameters. Typing out the LAME command in a terminal, as K3B presented it, shows that the strings for the output filename and id3 tags were not escaped for spaces, quotes, special characters.

How does one get K3B to properly escape those strings?

I've tried quoting them in the LAME configuration for K3B, but that didn't work. (I tried both ' and ".) I can find anything in any of documentation that I've been able find in this forum, or with Google searches.

Ripping to other formats works fine. (But most of my media players are happier with MP3.)

Does anyone have any suggestions?

lame use flags: sndfile static-libs
k3b use flags: dvd emovix encode ffmpeg flac lame mad musepack musicbrainz sndfile sox vcd vorbis wav

Issue solved. I needed to recompile K3B without libsndfile. I.e., I removed the sndfile use flag. It now rips to MP3 without complaint.
