if i try to get ifconfig to set my IP, buggerall happens, and it gives an adress it lacks

now my first instint was to check if the directory atleast existed... it doesnt..
what DOES exist is

can someone tell me whats up? what to do to fix it, and what the DEVIL did i do wrong at install
