|
|
Hi all
I have sound now from my Plat Ex using the 2.6 test5 version of alsa.
I read the following page:
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php3?company=Creative+Labs&card=Soundblaster+Audigy+Platinum&chip=Audigy&module=emu10k1#opt
But I'm confused what options I need to use to get the best from the card?
It appears I can put one of the following in my boot options, but I want to put them all!! is that possible?
Input & Output configurations [snd_extin/snd_extout]
* Creative Card wo/Digital out [0x0003/0x1f03]
* Creative Card w/Digital out [0x0003/0x1f0f]
* Creative Card w/Digital CD in [0x000f/0x1f0f]
* Creative Card wo/Digital out + LiveDrive [0x3fc3/0x1fc3]
* Creative Card w/Digital out + LiveDrive [0x3fc3/0x1fcf]
* Creative Card w/Digital CD in + LiveDrive [0x3fcf/0x1fcf]
* Creative Card wo/Digital out + Digital I/O 2 [0x0fc3/0x1f0f]
* Creative Card w/Digital out + Digital I/O 2 [0x0fc3/0x1f0f]
* Creative Card w/Digital CD in + Digital I/O 2 [0x0fcf/0x1f0f]
* Creative Card 5.1/w Digital out + LiveDrive [0x3fc3/0x1fff]
How does it work? Any ideas?
Can I put 0xffff & 0xffff to select everything??
Thanks!

Hi!
Audigy 2 Platinum eX owners are rare here...
This are my options: options snd-emu10k1 index=0 extin=0x3fcf extout=0x1fcf enable_ir=1
I don't know what 0x3fff and 0x1fff does as I haven't had the time to test all the inputs and outputs. |

Hi Miguel
yes, you're right, there's not many of us around, or the others are just shy
Thanks for posting your boot config ...
I see its the same as mine (the one from the url in my post)
I just don't know why everything isn't enabled by default!
Sadly I may have to find some windows sites for the Audigy 2 Plat EX to see if there's any low level data on how the card works!
If you find any more info, let me know
cheers

At first glance I can see that the Digital In doesn's seem to work with this configuration. At least the optical light isn't turned on. Digital Out seems to work though.
Note that I'm talking about ALSA here. Don't know if the OSS drivers support more (I don't think they do).
As for the MIDI and RCA interfaces... I can check the RCA, but I don't have any MIDI equipment around.
By the way, what do you mean with "low level data on how the card works"? |

Yeh, I'm only talking, kernel 2.6 built in alsa drivers (I couldn't get the 0.9.6 drivers to work in portage. Perhaps I needed the cvs version The OSS driver worked until I upgraded gcc, then it wouldn't build)
You wouldn't see the 'digital in' laser turned on anyway.... not on the break out box at least.
Digital out works, but no ac3 passthrough?
I meant that this card has a very good specification, and I am only using its basic functions. In order for me to understand more about what the card can do, so that I may be able to understand more how ALSA is working for this card, I may need to read the windows manuals that came with it.

okay i just upgraded to the 2.6 kernel with no luck on the sound front..
i compiled alsa in to my kernel, and its like it isnt even there
i get errors when i boot, complaining about missing sound (/dev/dsp or whatever)
i emerged alsa-tools and alsa-lib but this didnt help
when i type "alsamixer" i get:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
also when i type"grep audio /proc/pci" i get this
grep: /proc/pci: No such file or directory
any ideas? |

Ok, here's the sound part from my kernel config.
Do you have the OSS compatability loaded? If not you won't get the /dev/dsp.
cheers

Compile the drivers as modules and then emerge alsa-utils.
The edit the file /etc/modules.d/alsa to your needs.
Then run modules-update.
Then run /etc/init.d/alsasound start.
Then run alsamixer. Unmute the channels and play with it.
Hope this helps! |

(1) Can you tell me what file you guys are putting this in?
I have an Audigy 2 (not platinum or anything) and I want to turn on as many features as possibly, I'm using 2.6.0-test5, and I have sound working, but it only comes out of my front speakers now... also, I use analog output, 3 cables going to my 5.1 setup (Front, Center/Sub, Rear).
(2) Is there a guide somewhere, or maybe just a simple setting, for it to work with my 5.1 surround?
Thanks in advance. |

If I'm not mistaken, all you need to do is run alsamixer and turn up "Wave Center" (center speaker) and "Wave Surround" (rear speakers). |

Code: | options snd-emu10k1 index=0 extin=0x3fcf extout=0x1fcf enable_ir=1 |

Alsa, uh, I'm just loading the module that was made by 2.6.0 (snd-emu10k1) instead of running alsasound like I did previously -- is this correct? I mean, sound works and I get surround... when I run alsasound on boot, even though I put snd-card emu10k1 in modules.d/alsa... it loads up my nForce2 sound, which I don't want to use...
Am I losing anything but just loading snd-emu10k1? |

Edit the file /etc/modules.d/alsa |
