I know the title does not provide useful information, but let me explain. I have a laptop running kernel 2.6.37 and it works flawlessly at home and work. I connect to the wireless networks via wpa_supplicant with no issues. The "odd behaviour" presents itself when I have to go school and work in the library. At the university i attend, there is wifi all over campus and wpa_supplicant is able to connect, although it takes a few tries. However, after connecting, nothing works. Not the browsers, not the shell, not the apps, it simply stops responding. At times I have to reboot 2 or three times before I can get my laptop to work. What I noticed that I thought was odd that after connecting to the university's wifi and i fired up the console, instead of the commonly line " user@localhost$" all i see is what it appears to be an internal ip address assigned by what i could only assume is the ip server in campus. So I'm thinking this could be the root of the issue...any suggestions?

Hi snakeo2,

you said "although it takes a few tries" > is there any errors ? If you, could you post some logs ?

Also, could you post some informations (before and after a sucessfull connection), like :
  • # route -n
  • $ cat /etc/resolv.conf
  • # iwconfig | grep Tx-Power

Is there any people that you know, which are running Linux, and having the same issues as you ?

Thank you and good luck :) !
