Hello, i have been struggling to get my system to update of late, keeping getting this error:

Code:
emerge -uDNp world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "sys-auth/policykit".
(dependency required by "net-misc/networkmanager-0.7.2-r1" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "sys-power/pm-utils-1.4.1[networkmanager]" [installed])
(dependency required by "sys-power/upower-0.9.12" [installed])
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdelibs-4.7.0-r1[upower]" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-base/kfloppy-4.7.0[handbook]" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])

have also tried

Code:

emerge -uNp world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "net-libs/glib-networking[ssl?]" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- net-libs/glib-networking-2.28.7 (masked by: package.mask)
/etc/portage/package.mask:
#

(dependency required by "net-libs/libsoup-2.34.3" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "net-libs/libsoup-gnome-2.34.3" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "gnome-base/gvfs-1.6.7[http]" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])
For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

but just tried following and can get some to upgrade.

Code:

emerge -uDNp system
!!! Invalid PORTDIR_OVERLAY (not a dir): '/usr/local/portage/layman/berkano'

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

sys-auth/policykit was replaced with sys-auth/polkit.

You appear to be installing an older version of networkmanager that requires the old policykit instead of polkit. All of the networkmanager ebuild in the current tree are for version 8 and higher which depend on polkit. Try emerging just networkmanager first, then do the full world update.

Thanks for replies.

Already have v8 networkmanger installed.

First, update portage - I don't really recall full history, but there were many changes lately that affected dependency calculation.

Also, unmerge policykit and emerge polkit, if you have former installed.

Portage already upto date, polkit already installed.

Code:

emerge -av portage

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

hamlet michael # emerge -av polkit

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

[ebuild   R    ] sys-auth/polkit-0.101-r1  USE="gtk kde nls pam -debug -doc -examples (-introspection)" 0 kB

emerge -uDN system

I would need to see more of the log, but chances are you need to rebuild imagemagick (or perhaps librsvg) first.
