|

Quick warning for anyone installing kde 4.7 who has grouping or grid desktop layouts. You will find that the plasma desktop crashes when starting up, because of a bug in the grouping code. The bug has been identified and will be fixed in 4.7.1 (see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278222). As a workaround, you can start with a fresh config (rename or delete ~/.kde4 while kde4 isn't running (ie from one of the virtual terminals). You should be able to return to the current configuration with 4.7.1.
Have fun! |

I did see that, but when I copied my original configuration back and made the changes I had some additional issues with the panel, hence my recommendation in the original post. Of course others may have more luck than I had! I posted the first message to avoid people experiencing what I experienced with the crash on start up without understanding the problem. |

removing the plasma-config files under $HOME/.kde4/share/config helped me to get my desktop back (without gridlayout )
Code: |
ls -l .kde4/share/config/ | grep -i plasma
-rw------- 1 michael michael 5580 7. Aug 11:03 plasma-desktop-appletsrc
-rw------- 1 michael michael 871 7. Aug 10:59 plasma-desktoprc
drwxr-xr-x 2 michael michael 4096 7. Aug 10:50 plasma.bkp

Gridlayout moved to kde-base/kdeplasma-addons.
