|
|
Following the configuration guide, installing first time onto a system, I get to the compile and it tells me that
'bash: make_install: command not found'
Any ideas?
Also, this is a fresh install into a machine that has 4 150G hard drives. Two of one kind, two of another (I believe, I'd have to doublecheck, they might all be the same),
any recomendations on how lay out the partitions and such? I've been reading and it seems /var and /usr don't need all that much, that most space would probably be /home.
Or is there some sort of software option in setting up gentoo that can use them as some sort of raid (they are sata)? If so, what would be recomended?
Thanks

nevermind on the 'make_install' thing, I must have misread and mistyped... it was supposed to be make modules_install
All good.
Question still remains on the file system partitioning and setup.

Consult the Gentoo Handbook.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/
And most if not all your questions will be answered.
Gerard. _________________ To install Gentoo I use sysrescuecd.Based on Gentoo, has firefox to browse Gentoo docs and mc to browse (and edit) files.
The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.
You can follow the Handbook verbatim.

I've never used more than 16G for /usr, though a couple of times I've come close. (That's
with a separate /var and /home). 24G would be more than ample. Hmm, this is x86 - I
don't know how much more space, if any, a 64-bit installation would take.
As for the rest of the filesystems, it depends on what you do with them - start storing
a lot of music or iso images, and space gets used pretty quickly.

cwr, thanks.
gerard, I am using the handbook for the install. It doesn't go into much detail about 'space'... |
