I have installed Gentoo on one 80Gb Hdd. Everythings Cool!
Now I have installed a new 40Gb harddisk to my PC.
Is it possible to expand the entire filesystem to this new extra space?
Is it possible in Linux?
PS: I can definitely use the new HDD space to store my files, but Just for curiositys sake I want to know whether i can expand my entire filesystem to this new space.

LVM usually has to be done as part of the installation. It can be done after, but that's even more of a pain.
In your case, I would suggest finding some part of your setup that would naturally and happily fit into 40G, including appropriate room for growth. Then make a new partition on the 40G drive and copy the data over. Depending on what you've chosen to move, specific steps will vary. You might have to do the actual work from a CDboot, like SysRescueCD. _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |
