recently i've been having some issues with vlc where the entire system halts and vlc is stuck playing back the same fraction of a second of audio it was on when the crash happened. i need to to a hard reset to get back into my desktop, and on at least one occasion the crash actually killed the drivers i need to use X...
it seems to happen mostly (if not entirely) when i'm trying to run vlc with deluge, though i don't recall whether one's happened without a running instance of the other. when installing vlc i followed the advice provided by the gentoo wiki and the vlc site in setting use flags
I'm running an xfce4 desktop on a notebook if anyone's curious with kernel 2.6.39-gentoo-r3
edit: it just happened with vlc on its own, so i don't think deluge has much to do with it
Code: | skred@gorch ~ $ emerge -pv vlc
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!

EDIT: please excuse my profound retardation. the driver should be i915 according to thinkwiki...
edit edit: this thread suggested adding to the kernel command line for a similar setup, so i'm gonna see how that goes
sorry it took me so long to respond to my own question...
lspci shows this for a vga compatible device. so far as i know i'm using whatever intel drivers came with 2.6.39 (intel gma?). the VIDEO_CARD variable is set to intel btw
Code: | Intel Corporation Device 0126 (rev 09) |
i don't know whether this is interesting for you at all:
Code: |
intel: Driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets: i810,
i810-dc100, i810e, i815, i830M, 845G, 854, 852GM/855GM, 865G, 915G,
E7221 (i915), 915GM, 945G, 945GM, 945GME, Pineview GM, Pineview G,
965G, G35, 965Q, 946GZ, 965GM, 965GME/GLE, G33, Q35, Q33, GM45,
4 Series, G45/G43, Q45/Q43, G41, B43, B43, Clarkdale, Arrandale,
Sandybridge, Sandybridge, Sandybridge, Sandybridge, Sandybridge,
Sandybridge, Sandybridge |
and then a few lines down
Code: | (II) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Sandybridge |
could that maybe have something to do with it? |
