I recently completely rebuilt my Gentoo (new install to amd64).
I have noticed that my Fluxbox UI appears to be a little sluggish now, whilst under heavy IO load.
Yesterday, an extreme case of this happened when I was writing a couple of hundred megabytes to a USB key.
My entire UI froze for extended periods of time. The only reason I knew my machine had not died altogether was the USB key was still flashing. I suspected I/O errors on write but no diagnostics where written to the system messages log.
The key was plugged into a 7 port USB hub, into which I also have my keyboard and mouse.
The mouse would work smoothly, then stop, sometimes for minutes at a time, the display would also stop for the same periods - xterm displays, everything. Not a pixel moved.
Any suggestions?
