Hi, starting I wanted to update the system, I did an emerge -u system first which worked just fine. Then I tried emerge -u world, I had some problems Thread. I unmerged the blocking package and emerge -u world. I got no errors.

Then I etc-update'ed, but there was a message like "kde config needs updating". I first etc-updated and didn't update the kde config.

Now I'm a little lost here, starting I don't get the normal kdm screen, KDE doesn't start either.

In /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm I found the following README file.

Quote:

The configuration files in this directory were automatically generated.
As the used algorithms are pretty dumb, the configuration may be broken.
This configuration consists of the following files:
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xservers
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xaccess
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xresources
- /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xstartup
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xreset
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xsession
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/backgroundrc
This configuration was derived from the following files:
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xaccess
- /etc/X11/xdm/Xresources
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xstartup
- /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm/Xreset
Have a look at the program <kdebase-sources>/kdm/kfrontend/genkdmconf
if you want to generate another configuration.

Well thats exactly what happened, the configuration is broken.

In /usr/kde/3.1/share/config all files were changed. Do I have to edit every single file? Do you have a better solution?
