|
|
Hi
As feard, my Wireless PCI Card is not working in the Live system.
It is however recognized by lspci and listed as network controller.
I have this one: http://www.amazon.de/TP-Link-TL-WN851N-W-LAN-Adapter-MBit/dp/B0019EMF2M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314049479&sr=8-1
As far as i could get info, this should work with the ath9k driver. I did modeprobe ath9k and the modules loaded, but the interface wlan0 did not appear in ifconfig.....
The card does not blink or anything, but i guess this is normal as it is not used....
I put the card in a normal pci slot, not 4x or anything, i find it a bit strange, that the first bit of the card has a break in the pins but only the second is also on the connector...
Anyhow without network, there is no installation... so how do i get it to work ?
Also how do i install ndiswrapper, with a usb stick (download package on another pc and trasfer it) with files is needed ? How to proceed then etc...
Thanks _________________ Thank you for your help.

Make a System Rescue CD and boot a kernel which has the same bitness as your intended install to an xfce GUI and a network connection. Network Manager icon is in the lower right of the desktop.
If sysresccd does not connect, you can use any linux (livecd or installed) of appropriate bitness that supports chroot to install gentoo. No part of the install cd becomes part of the gentoo install. _________________ Defund the FCC. |

Thanks for the tip Will do that and use Kubuntu 11.04 for install.
In Kubuntu, the card is working. Also i loaded the same modules as in Kubuntu with the gentoo live cd but no succes...
Could it be that the kernel 3.0-rc1 is not supporting my atheros chipset and therefore not finding it ?
The Ubuntu modules are as follows: ath9k, mac80211, ath9k_common, ath9k_hw, ath, cfg80211.
My plan is to use kubuntu for install and then try to get the newest madwifi (wich would be madwifi-ng-999 or ?) and try to install it this way.
Any other tips for the chipset on the Card?
07:06.0 Atheros AR922X (rev 1)

Thanks for now _________________ Thank you for your help.

If i do ifconfig in the chroot i get wlan0 as result but when i boot gentoo it is not there.
I got all the wireless stuff in the kernel on M. Also i installed wpa_supplicant and wireless-tools. I dont know what to do next to get the card working....

which kernel version is your gentoo install using? uname -a
which kernel version is your kubuntu using?
how do you feel about about reverting to an earlier kernel as a test? _________________ Defund the FCC. |

The problem was, that the ath9k modules where build into the kernel and not a module. For some strange reason the driver does not work if they are compiled into the kernel. As module, they work as intended. _________________ Thank you for your help.
