Hello,

I'm using OpenBox as window manager and I'm trying to set a background image using PCManFM.
Code:
pcmanfm --desktop --set-wallpaper=Dalek.jpg  --wallpaper-mode=center

Desktop preference popup reflect my setting.

Unfortunately, the backgound is still empty and no message is displayed. Before posting, I googleled a bit and found only people suggesting to use some other tools. But is someone knowing how to make PCManFM able to to that ?

Thanks

Laurent

Hi,
I haven't access to my gentoo, but AFAIK you should be able to access the background configuration with a right click on the desktop.

The only thing I can ensure you is that you should be able to avoid command line setting.

Do you have some default background displayed when removing your command line setting? If you do I could experience how to set an alternate background using the GUI starting from that point.

Be back, at least if I said anything wrong.

Thanks for your attention

PS Beware, letting Daleks getting into your computer is VERY VERY dangerous, except if you're the DOCTOR. :lol:

Hi CaptainBlood,

I've tried all solutions :
  • from the command line,
  • from the desktop menu
  • mixed of both

and none of them worked for me.

I'm using Openbox and I got a black background which I think is the defaut X screen (I didn't verified and I can't right now, but I don't think it's something set by OB).

It's because I would like to EXTERMINATE all problems and I own a sonic screwdriver to keep them inside :wink:

Bye

I also have OpenBox and heres the solution I have:

1) Install feh and PyXDG
2) Create a desktop entry in /etc/xdg/autostart (any name followed by .desktop file extension, ls /etc/xdg/autostart for more examples)
3) fill the entry with something like this

Code:

[Desktop Entry]
Categories=Application;
Exec=feh --bg-scale /home/brian/Pictures/BlueShards.jpg
GenericName=wallpaper
Name=feh
Comment=set wallpaper
Terminal=false
Type=Application
OnlyShowIn=OPENBOX

replace with your image.

hope that helps :)

Well well well ... I found it.

I did some try with feh that failled also to load my image ... because jpeg wasn't compiled.
After adding both "jpeg png and gif" in my USE both feh and PCManFM are working fine.

It's only bad that PCManFM didn't complained at least it can load my file as feh did : it would have saved lot of my time.

The other bad thing is it seems working only if it's working in desktop mode ... Otherwise, nothing is displayed so as I don't use/like desktop icons, I think I'll use feh to set my background..

So now it's working :)

Bye

Laurent
