Hi,
I'm running gentoo-sources-2.6.39-r3 on my samsung nc20. Before, on a 2.6.35 (or some such) kernel, I could set lcd brightness by echo:ing the desired number to the backlight file in /proc/acpi/whatever... (I can be more specific if it would help anybody help me but I expect this is useless information...). I understand that these nice files in /proc/acpi have been deprecated, supposedly to be replaced by stuff in /sys/. I do have a /sys/class/backlight directory, but it is empty.
I've also seen a "samsung-laptop" module that supposedly is to set brightness and lots of other stuff, It won't load however, and I don't really want it anyway. I want this nice generic way of setting brightness that's worked on all of my laptops for years with the same shellscripts controlling it:)
I'll post my kernel .config below so you can see if I've missed something that would make /sys/class/backlight work. Otherwise, are there any patches one could apply to get the /proc/acpi things back? Or should I install an ancient kernel instead...? ;)
