|
|
hi
I’m trying to install gentoo 3.0.4 onto a compaq Evo n610c. I’m following the handbook and things go ok except that I have to mount the partitions using /dev/hda1 instead of /dev/sda1 etc.
I’ve got to the point where I have to reboot but then get verious kernel panic states. I’ve posted about my kernel issues and the advice I got was to re-compile the kernel removing any referance to ide drive. Here’s the post link https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-889164-highlight-blkbx.html
I think that it’s my fstab, maybe something to do with theide hdd not really siure. I’m sure you’ve guessed that this is my first attemt at installing gentoo.
Thanks for any help/advice
cheers.
Sorry should have included the kernel errors. They change every time I try another grub.config though. Mostly it's
'unable to to mount root fs via NFS'
'cannot open root device"hda3" or unknown-block(2,0)'
Please append a correct "root=" boot option here |

In addition to removing the legacy IDE support from your kernel configuration, you need to use the sda notation consistently in both your grub.conf and /etc/fstab. |
